WITH RAFFLES AND RUNS, EVERYONE’S A WINNER

DMRcqdIVQAAOAbv

October was Breast Cancer Awareness month, and we could not have asked for a better turnout at our #TeamAllure walk on Sunday, October 15th. It is always heartwarming to see our community come together in support of great causes like this one and the many, many women that suffer from breast cancer each year. Thank you so much to all who participated!

Our facility-wide raffle was likewise a success. Our generous vendors (listed below) donated some wonderful gifts, with each home offering the same set of prizes including a flatscreen television, iPad, Vidonn smartband, and numerous gift cards.

There is one grand prize, effective Allure-wide: Dinner and Broadway tickets for two and a one-night stay in Manhattan! After all, nothing says “New York” like show tunes and a classic night on the town.

We will be drawing names on October 30th at each facility and announcing the lucky winners on social media, so be sure to check our Twitter and Facebook to see if you’re among them!

MINDS IN MOTION
the allure group minds in motion

Always keen to innovate in ways that empower our residents and their families, The Allure Group is proud of our burgeoning “Minds in Motion” program. Based out of King David Center, our neurological rehab program is a 28-bed specialized unit where we take care of a subset of patients who have suffered strokes as well as patients with Parkinson’s, ALS, MS, and other movement disorders.

Under the expert supervision of Dr. Miran Salgado and specially trained therapists, this program helps patients using  innovative rehab equipment and treatments tailored to individual needs and issues. As part of the program, we offer ongoing educational lectures to staff, patients, families and the community at large. Called “The Vanguard Lecture Series,” these talks are an informational way of driving awareness to the Minds in Motion program.

Parkinson’s Disease is a type of movement disorder that can affect the ability to perform daily activities. It is chronic, and the symptoms become worse over time. It is characterized by tremors, stiffness or rigidity of the muscles, and slowness of movement, but may also manifest in non-motor symptoms. Researchers now recognize early manifestation signs that may place a person at risk, including loss of smell, depression, constipation, impotence and a certain type of sleep disorder.

For those with Parkinson’s and similar disorders, “Minds in Motion” has been extraordinarily positive so far. We’re excited to keep giving back to our residents by raising awareness and continuing to provide the best care possible.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
happy-halloween-facts

If the ghouls and goblins gobbling snickers in the streets weren’t any indication, Halloweentime has arrived! Some fun facts about Halloween:
It’s more Irish than St. Patrick’s Day: Halloween originated from a Celtic festival of the dead called Samhain, and Irish Celts invented the jack-o-lantern, which were carved into turnips, beets, and potatoes.

It was once more romantic than Valentine’s Day: By Irish and Scottish tradition, Halloween was one of the only nights a year opposite sexes could mingle. Girls would play romantic fortune-telling games like bobbing apples and cabbage stumping.

Trick-or-treating used to involve dancing and beggins: Experts trace trick-or-treating back to “mumming” in which costumed participants performed door-to-door for treats. In other early versions, kids would follow the performers and beg for coins for fun, out of necessity, or both.

We held a product demo on October 24th at King David Center with Bioness. Products included the vector harness, L300 and H200 (a functional electrical stimulation system). The Allure Group continues to expand our training and explore the realm of robotics in the subacute world.

Above is a picture of our King David Center medical director, Dr. Stuart Fischer, in the harness as well as a picture of the demo truck.

How Cardiac Monitoring Became Commonplace in Brooklyn

The implementation of EHR (Electronic Health Records) has digitized medical information almost completely — a huge opportunity for the healthcare industry to make smarter, faster, and more accurate decisions.

Sensor technology also brings a whole new world of data possibilities to monitor and prevent health issues. For some, this could manifest as wearable technology; for The Allure Group, it’s coming in the form of EarlySense, a device for beds that records patient heart rate, breathing rate, and motion. With EarlySense data, our nurses will be able to assist residents at the first hint of an issue, and track their vitals for a better overall sense of their health.
